While expressing confidence in Andrew Strauss-led England Test side, the former English all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has urged the ODI skipper Alastair Cook to work hard with the one-day side to convert it into a settled unit.
Flintoff, while speaking to Sky Sports, admitted that England have never been a good one-day side. The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806 man further added that over the past couple of years, England’s Test side has gelled together quite well and has
been giving performances consistently. However, the ODI unit not only lacks the consistency factor, but also the positions of various players in the side are yet to be defined.
“I'd like to see Alastair Cook take the one day side forward, because out of the two he's got the bigger job because the Test side been settled a number of years and it performs,” said the 34-year-old former England all-rounder ahead of
the England-South Africa Test series, commencing at the Oval, on Thursday, July 19, 2012.
“England have never really been any good at one-day cricket, everyone who has been brought in to have go they turn out to be not very good, and I include myself in that, so he's got the bigger job to get the one-day side right,” added
Flintoff, who played 79 Tests and 141 One Day Internationals for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, before surrendering to an enduring knee injury, in 2010.
While Flintoff is rating the Test side a bit above the One Day International squad, statistics show the flip side. The Poms have not lost a One Day International so far this year, compared to the unprecedented 3-0 Test series whitewash
at the hands of Pakistan in January this year, in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 (2-0), at home last
month.
In contrast, their ODI record of late is quite encouraging, as Alastair Cook and men whitewashed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in ODI series, with a 4-0 margin each, and won the three-ODI series against the Windies 2-0, with one washed out fixture.
