Alastair Cook is good enough to re-invent himself as ODI batsman, writes http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GP-Swann-c1501 – Cricket News Update
The specialist spinner of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964, the incumbent Test captain.
Swann opines that Cook, like Strauss, has rejuvenated his batting form which will help him in holding the reins of the team.
The bowler has also revealed that Cook, being a good friend, called him up before taking the baton, and he, considering the opener’s professional skills, advised him to go ahead with complete confidence.
Swann has described all these facts in his newly-released autobiography, 'The Breaks Are Off'.
“Alastair Cook is a close mate and phoned me to ask whether I thought he should take on the England one-day captaincy. I told him, yes, of course he should. I thought he was more than good enough to re-invent himself as a one-day batsman - just like Andrew
Strauss did - and it would make him a shoo-in for the Test captaincy,” stated the spinner.
He went on to divulge that the new captain was confused ahead of his maiden venture at home against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, but he took the courage and led the side to a tremendous victory, finishing up as ‘Player of the Series’.
Swann wrote, “He was understandably nervous for his maiden series as official captain against Sri Lanka last summer but his leadership was outstanding - apart from team talks.”
Chin also tells that Cook stumbles a lot while talking as he starts new sentences without completing the first ones.
Having fabulously led the Poms to clinch a 3-0 home series over the Men in Blue, Cook is now in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 to play a 5-ODI series, starting from October 14, 2011. The 26-year-old lashed his career best 294 in an npower Test in August 2011.
Swann is also included in Cook’s Playing XI for India tour. His off-break deliveries will surely prove to be an asset for the team on the dry and flat pitches of the Sub-continent. The 32-year-old has represented the English in 36 Test, 60 ODI and 26 T20I
matches so far.
