Alastair Cook replaces Andrew Strauss as the England Captain – Cricket News
Left-handed batsman Alastair Cook has been appointed as the new One Day International Captain of the English team after Andrew Strauss stepped down from the job.
It is quite a surprising decision considering the fact that Cook has never been a permanent member of the English limited overs squad. The left-handed opener is labeled as a Test specialist and a batsman who can spend long hours on the crease.
After taking over the new role, Cook has appreciated the efforts of the previous ODI captain and said that Strauss did a great job and he helped England become a force in the limited overs cricket. Cook also expressed that he is happy to be given this responsibility
and he is raring to prove his worth as a batsman in ODI cricket and also as a leader.
Cook said, "Andrew Strauss has led the one-day team to continued success over the past two years and I'll be looking to continue that progress as captain. I'm excited by the challenge of taking our 50-over cricket to new heights and I believe I can play
an integral role with the bat as well as captain."
On the other side of the coin, Strauss also expressed satisfaction on his country’s progress in limited overs cricket in recent times. However, he feels that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 has a lot more work to do in order to win major tournaments and re-building is required
in order to do that, which is the reason why he has resigned from the post.
"I've enjoyed my time as England one-day captain immensely and I'm extremely proud of the strides we've made in limited-overs cricket over the past two years. We still have a long way to go if we're to achieve our goal of winning ICC global events and I
feel now is the right time for me to step aside and ensure someone else takes up that challenge," said Strauss.
English cricket officials have gambled by making Cook the captain of the ODI team but only time will tell that it pays off or not.
