http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 as ‘special’ – Cricket News Update
Alastair Cook, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 skipper, is ecstatic after winning the all-important series against India and said that it has been a special tour for the Poms, beating the Men in Blue at their own backyard after almost 28 years.
England came to India as underdogs, with not many sporting analysts giving them a chance to dismantle the hosts, especially after their disastrous performances against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdur-Rehman-c41691.
On top of that, the tour of India was Cook’s first official series as England’s Test captain, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 at home in the summer.
While expressing his views during the post-series presentation ceremony, the left-handed opener praised the effort of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IR-Bell-c1597 on the fifth day of the Nagpur Test, as the duo accumulated 208 runs for the fourth-wicket partnership, taking their team to the shores of safety and securing a series victory.
The cricketer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 is surprised at the behaviour of the Nagpur pitch and feels that the track became easier to bat on as the match progressed.
“Special tour. Today, it was a flat wicket to bat on but Trotty and Belly did it so calmly. We were quite surprised with the pitch at the start, how low and slow it was, but it got better,” said the England skipper. “We knew if we didn't give any soft dismissals it would be hard to bowl us out and I'm proud the lads fronted up.”
Cook led his team from the front in the series and scored consecutive hundreds in the first three Test of the battle. The left-hander piled up 562 runs in the four matches at an astonishing average of more than 80 runs per innings, which is extra-ordinary for a batsman who is not used to playing on spin-friendly conditions. The England captain was rightly named as the Player of the Series for holding the team’s batting together under trying circumstances.
