http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013’s ODI skipper, Alastair Cook, has come to the defence of Test cricket. The left-hander has said that despite the thrill and excitement in T20’s, Test cricket remains the ultimate form of the game.
Cook has urged crickets governing bodies to do their best to preserve the game, so that the other two formats do not consume it.
The defensive left-hander said, “Quite clearly I believe that Test cricket is the pinnacle. I still think most players believe that too. Twenty20 has done wonderful things – the numbers of kids playing has gone up, the number coming
to watch game has gone up. So it’s been an important thing for the game. But we need to manage things well to protect Test cricket.”
A number of players opted out of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJ-Bravo-c1379 preferred to play for their
respective clubs instead of the national side.
Cook said that a player has to keep an eye on the financial aspects, as the life span of cricketer is fairly short. However, the 27-year-old has stressed that it is the responsibility of governing bodies to make sure that the best
players are playing when two Test sides collide.
Cook, who is an indispensable part of the English Test team, is confident that the Poms will overhaul the West Indies in the upcoming Test series. The left-hander believes that the English team can defeat any side if they play
to their potential.
However, the 27-year-old does not want England to take the West Indies lightly as they have the ability to cause an upset.
He said, “If we play to our potential we’d expect to win this upcoming Test series. Any Test side is a good side and we need to be at our best to beat West Indies.”
The Poms went through a lot in their last two Test series; however, they have somehow managed to hold onto their number one status in International Cricket Council’s Test rankings.
England will be defending their number one Test ranking in the three match Test series against West Indies, which is due to start from Thursday, May 17, 2012, with a game at Lord’s cricket ground.
