England’s one-day captain, Alastair Cook, has expressed least concern regarding the exclusion of all-rounder, Kevin Pietersen, for the upcoming five-match one-day series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, all set to begin from Friday, August 24.
In a recent interview, Cook while explaining his side’s position on the KP fiasco said, “There's not really that much change here. He (Pietersen) hasn't been around the one-day squad for a year or so now. We are going to need more of that in these five games -- that players at certain times in this series step up and be counted and put in a match-winning performance."
“Certainly there are a number of issues that will get resolved and have to get resolved. For me personally it's obviously a sad situation but as a side we need to put it to one side," the left-handed opening batsman added.
Cook reckoned that KP’s absence would give http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RS-Bopara-c2373 an opportunity to test their mettle and cement their places in the national team.
Meanwhile, going into the series after losing their number-one status in Test cricket to South Africa just over the weekend, the ODI skipper, insisted that his side would be looking to take an early lead in the series in order to avenge their Test defeat.
After experiencing the might of the South African contingent in the three-match Test series, Cook believes his team is ready for the visitors and would pose a serious challenge in order to win the limited overs tournament.
On the other hand, the stalemate between KP and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is getting worse, as there is a serious chance of KP getting an axe for good, ending his international career.
However, England players including Cook believe that the situation needs to be resolved with both sides working out a way to move ahead.
