Stuart Broad, who will captain the English T20 team, has said that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026, the ODI captain of England, is keen to prove his worth in the Twenty20 format.
According to the lanky pacer, the English team is currently facing an injury crisis and for this very reason they have decided to keep Cook, as a replacement player, for the upcoming T20 series against Pakistan in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE).
England’s in-form all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 due to this injury. The Poms may not risk playing him, and this may open the door for Cook, who last played
an international T20 for England on November 15, 2009.
Cook, who has played four T20I matches for England, has been in tremendous form off-late in limited overs cricket. The defensive left-hander was the leading run scorer in the ODI series against Pakistan, scaling 323 runs from four games at an average of
80.75 which also included two centuries.
Broad reckons that England can always turn to Cook, if any T20 specialist breaks down. He said, “Cooky is keen to play Twenty20 cricket. He's made that pretty obvious. He's been kept on in the squad, because obviously we've got some injury concerns. So it
was very easy for Cooky to stay on for an extra three or four days to cover the squad, and we can obviously have a look at him in the Twenty20 format.”
Broad admires Cook’s adaptability and mental strength. The English pace machine holds true that Cook can transform his game to suite any format of the game.
“It seems to be whatever you throw on his plate, whatever you challenge him with, he can adapt his game. You can see from his ODI form that he's developed scoring areas, shots, and he's played some fantastic one-day innings for us,” said Broad.
