Alastair Kellock confident ahead of Fiji clash – Rugby News Update
Alastair Kellock, the 30-year-old Glasgow Warriors lock is confident that they can defeat Fiji, when the two teams meet this weekend, Saturday, June 16 at Churchill Park, Lautoka.
Scotland is relishing the win against Australia last week, and are taking a lot of confidence into the match against the Pacific island nation. Their forward line received all the plaudits for the win against the Wallabies, and they want a repeat of the
performance.
Scotland has had a dismissal few months, losing every single game during the 2012 Six Nations Grand Slam, and having trouble scoring a try. They only managed to score 4 tries during the entire Six Nations campaign, and under Andy Robinson, the head coach,
they were unable to get out of the group stages during the 2011 Rugby World Cup. In the four league matches at the world cup, they only scored a try in one.
Prior to the match against Australia, Scotland had lost 7 games in a row, with Robinson's position becoming increasingly precarious. It was rumoured that a bad show on their summer tour would mean the axe for him.
However, Scotland can take confidence from the fact that Tim Visser, the Dutch-born Edinburgh winger is eligible to play for them under residency rules. He has been the top scorer in the RaboDirect PRO12 for the past three seasons, and his inclusion against
Fiji will give the side added verve going forward.
Kellock spoke about the match against Fiji and he wants a repeat of the game against Australia.
"The key to playing a team like Fiji is that you don't get carried away by what they are doing," added Kellock.
"It is true that, playing against any team, you have to concentrate on yourself. It is about finding our balance and not being influenced by what they are doing. We have got to use the momentum from the win in Australia, we have said that already. It is
Test rugby and each match is going to be different, especially given the contrast in conditions that we are experiencing."
The momentum is with the Scots, and they look favourites against Fiji.
