Alban Lakata wins third stage and Christoph Sauser retains overall lead in 2011 Trans Germany
Topeak Ergon team’s Alban Lakata won the third stage of 2011 Trans Germany on Thursday, June 2.
The race started in Lermoos and ended in Garmisch Partenkirchen. The 31-year-old Alban Lakata took a total of 2 hours, 44 minutes and 36 seconds to cover a distance of 83 kilometres.
Previously, Austrian mountain biker, Alban won the Austrian National Champion-Marathon and also won the World Cup-Marathon in 2010.
The race leader, Christoph Sauser was in second place with 1 second behind Alban.
After finishing the stage, Sauser said, "I temporarily lost control of the race. I couldn't keep up with the pace at the end of the climb, on the flat. He (Alban Lakata) always had a lead of 15, 20 seconds. And as he is strong in the flat, I saw my lead
shrinking."
Tim Bohme of Bulls was in the third place with a difference of 2 minutes and 48 seconds. Thomas Dietsch was also in good form, but he grabbed eighth place with a difference of 3 minutes and 20 seconds.
TBR Bikes-Jh Sachsen team’s Milan Spolc maintained his title of senior master men with a timing of 3 hours, 6 minutes and 48 seconds. Ferdinand Ganser was in the runner-up spot with 2 minutes and 53 seconds, while current leader Werner Hoppenger was in third
place.
Stage one winner, Specialised Racing team's Sauser retained his overall lead with a timing of 8 hours, 40 minutes and 29 seconds. Alban Lakata was in the second spot with 1 minute and 17 seconds behind Sauser.
Centurion-Vaude team’s Markus Kaufmann the finished in the third spot, with a difference of 7 minutes and 4 seconds.
In the women's category, Pia Sundstedt again retained his lead in third stage with a timing of 3 hours, 6 minutes and 24 seconds. British champion, Sally Bigham, was the runner-up with 3 minutes behind Pia.
Sundstedt was satisfied with the results, "Of course you are hoping for a win when the stages wraps up in your home town. I noticed in the first climb that it would be a good day, so I gave in all I had."
The final stage will start in Garmisch Partenkirchen and end in Achensee Maurach. All the riders will cover a distance of 94 kilometres.
