French contender, Albano Olivetti, took down the local veteran, Philipp Marx, in straight sets at the Gerry Weber Open 2012 on Saturday. He penned down a 6-3, 6-4 victory against the veteran to advance into the second round of the qualifying competition
at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 series event taking place in Halle, Germany.
Olivetti required a single break of serve in each set to dump the 30-year-old in their first meeting. After earning the success in 64 minutes, the French comfortably progressed into the second qualifying round at this outdoor grass court event.
The 20-year-old entered the Gerry Weber Stadion with poise and held his opening serve to take the initial lead. Olivetti maintained consistency in his game and after brushing off all three breakpoints he faced, the French held his entire serves. He got the
breakthrough in the sixth game after cashing in lone break chance and clicked the opener with a 6-3 win.
Ranked 319th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Olivetti improved his game in the following set and swiftly swiped his entire serves without facing any trouble. He capitalised on one out of three break opportunities in the fifth
game and registered a 6-4 success.

Up next for Olivetti is the qualifying third seed, Alexander Kudryavtsev, who received a bye into the second round of this qualifying competition.
Another German, Andre Begemann, also faced a similar fate. He was crashed out by the Russian challenger, Mikhail Ledovskikh, in straight sets in almost one and a half hour. Begemann broke his rival’s serve twice but blocked only five out of nine breakpoints
he came across, subsequently registering a 5-7, 5-7 loss. He fired 10 aces but spilled several double faults to suffer this shock.
