The FC Metz coach has expressed his sadness as his side was humbled by SC Bastia in Coupe de la Ligue on Tuesday
Les Graoullys, who currently play in the Championnat National, failed to make an impression at Stade Armand Cesari in Coupe de la Ligue encounter, and were defeated 3-0 by the Ligue 1 side.
SC Bastia were clearly the better side of the two and made no mistake on their way to the last 16 stage of the competition.
And Metz coach, Albert Cartier is not pleased with his side’s performance but admitted that I Turchini were the better side on Tuesday.
While talking to reporters, the former AFC Tubize coach stated that his side was wasteful on several occasions in front of goal, and one cannot afford that while playing against a stronger opposition.
The coach said that Metz made some silly mistakes in the game that allowed Bastia to score. Had they been more careful, result would have been different.
"When you're playing an opponent from a higher league, you can't afford to make mistakes but that's exactly what we did at the beginning of each half.
Cartier stressed that Les Grenats need to improve if they want to achieve their objectives this season.
Giving the example of their Tuesday’s opponents who were playing in the third division few years ago, the 46-year-old tactician said that they need to follow their example and show the world what they are capable of.
“We know what we have to do to improve the level of our game. Bastia were in our situation two seasons ago and it's up to us to follow their example."
On the other hand, SC Bastia coach, Frederic Hantz is not getting carried away despite his side’s comfortable win, and has urged his players to continue playing like that in the Ligue 1.
“We need to recover because we have some important matches ahead of us. I'd like to tip my hat to our fans who, despite our recent struggles, were exemplary and gave us a real boost as well as calming our nerves.”
Albert Cartier has urged his players to forget about their Coupe de la Ligue exit, and is looking forward to guide his side back to Ligue 2.
