Albert Costa’s decision about his future is still pending – Tennis News
Spanish Davis Cup captain has not finalized his decision about the future captainship of the team but he has hinted that he will step down from the duty and open up the place for someone else to take up. He will first contact the
president of Spanish Tennis Federation and talk about this matter then finalize the decision. He is still halfway through his decision.
Talking about his future as the captain of Davis Cup team of Spain, he said, “The decision about my future is half taken, but I want to talk to the president, because the first thing you should know it is him.”
The meeting will take place on Friday 16th December in Spain’s capital, Madrid, where the talks about Costa’s and José Luis Escañuela, president of STF will take place. It is going to be a tough decision for the president
as Costa has been very prolific with his role as the captain of the team.
Spain’s team under Costa’s leadership won the fifth Davis Cup title earlier this month, defeating four time finalists, Argentina. Team no doubt had the capability to easily defeat their rivals at their soil with the likes of world
number two, Rafael Nadal leading his troops that included world number five, David Ferrer, Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco. But it definitely requires someone to look into the bigger picture and does the homework before the players finally crash into
the courts.
Costa further added, “Obviously, I'm tired, I've had a lot of work for three years and I think I met the objectives and want to know the opinion of the president, as my contract ends on 31. Talking about the non-participation in
Davis Cup 2012 decision of three participants from this year Nadal, Ferrer and Lopez, he proclaimed, "These are her personal decision and I fully understand, I know they are players who have given everything for the tennis team and the Spanish, but next year
the calendar will be very difficult to reconcile it all."
Captain of Spain’s Davis Cup team, Costa was presented and award by the Tennis Journalists Association (TJA) for his classy performance as the captain of some fantastic players. He still thinks that there is a chance that he might
continue his job but at the moment he is clueless. Everything will be crystal clear after the meeting has taken place in Barcelona and Spanish fans will know my final decision in a day.
