Albert Montanes, Andreas Seppi advance to the second round – Bet-At-Home Cup 2011
Albert Montanes beats Javier Marti 6-3, 6-2
World number 50 Albert Montanes of Spain knocked out wild card entrant, world number 232 Javier Marti in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in the first round at the Bet-At-Home Cup in Kitzbuhel on Monday. The match lasted for an hour and
ten minutes.
Montanes broke his countryman in the second game to take a 2-0 lead but he was broken back in the very next game, losing the fourth game to level the score at 2-2. The Spaniards held their serve in the next three games to take
the score to 4-3 in favour of Montanes. The 30-year-old broke Marti in the eighth game to take a 5-3 lead and served out the set in the next game, winning it 6-3.
Just like the first set, Montanes claimed an early breakthrough as he broke Marti in the first game of the second set but the Spaniard failed to consolidate on it as he was broken back immediately to level the score at 1-1. However,
Montanes broke his compatriot once again in the third game and this time he succeeded in holding his serve in the next game to go ahead 3-1. The Spaniard claimed the second break of serve in the fifth game and capitalised on the double break of serve to win
the set 6-2.
Montanes will play German Philipp Kohlschreiber, seeded fifth at the event, in the next match.
Andreas Seppi defeats Denis Istomin 6-2, 6-2
Italian Andreas Seppi, ranked 48th in the world, dismissed world number 81 Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 to qualify for the second round. The match lasted for an hour and one minute.
Seppi made a solid start as he broke the Uzbek in the third and fifth game to blaze forward to a 4-1 lead. The Italian served out the set at 5-2. The 27-year-old captured ten of the twelve first service points and eight of the
fifteen second service points in the first set.
The Italian carried the winning momentum into the second set, breaking Istomin in the opening game and holding his next service game to grab a 2-0 lead. Seppi broke his opponent again in the seventh game and consolidated on it
to clinch the set 6-2. The Italian capitalised on two of the five break points he received on Istomin’s serve and saved the only break point he faced on his own serve in the second set.
Seppi is slated to face world number 77 Pere Riba of Spain in the round of 16.
