Albert Montanes defeats Nick van der Meer in the first round – Madrid Challenger 2012 CH 
Third seeded, Albert Montanes, gleefully gave a straight sets defeat to Nick van der Meer in the initial round of the Madrid Challenger 2012, held at the hard courts of Madrid, Spain. The local contestant summed
up his remarkable win, 6-4, 6-1, in exactly one hour on Tuesday.
The Spanish veteran displayed his classic performance since the start of the opener and confidently held his serve throughout the initial part. He broke the Dutch challenger’s initial serve and marked his 3-1
lead in the fourth game. To his surprise, Meer struggled forward and responded back to his opponent by initial breaking his serve. For the remaining part, he was very active and evened out the score line to 3-all in the sixth and 4-all in the eighth game.
This was unquestionably an alarming situation of the Spaniard, as he desperately eyed on the victory. Towards the end, he nudged forward and swiftly concluded the set with a 6-4 lead.
The 27-year-old, Meer, had an average initial serve accuracy of 60 percent, bagging 16 of 21 first and four of 14 second delivery points. His rival had a 64 percent first serve presentation, pocketing away 14
of 21 first and six of 12 second serve points. From a total of seven serve break, he just capitalized two and Meer just attained one of four.
The world number 414 Dutch, completely demoralized and was unable to withstand his rival’s pressure. Like before, the Spanish professional drew the first blood and busted Meer’s serve in the fourth and fifth
game respectively. He progressed in the set without facing any hindrance and confidently closed the set with a breadstick.
The 31-year-old local had an improved first serve precision of 74 percent, bagging away 12 of 14 first and four of five second delivery points. His challenger on the other hand attained 65 percent serve accuracy
with six of 13 first and two of seven second delivery points. Nevertheless, he was unable to snatch even a single serve break but Montanes attained two of four break points.
For the round number two, the Spanish challenger will battle against the German professional, Jan-Lennard Struff.
