Albert Montanes defeats Paul Capdeville to enter second round – China Open 2011
Spanish tennis pro Albert Montanes eased past Paul Capdeville of Chile 6-3, 6-3 on Tuesday to book his place in the second round of 2011 China Open here at the National Tennis Center in Beijing, China.
Unseeded at the Association of Tennis Professional’s tournament, Montanes looked in commanding form in a match that lasted for only 52 minutes on the hard courts of Beijing. Breaking the serve at regular intervals, the Spaniard
established complete control over the contest.
Timing the ball well from deep behind the baseline, Montanes dashed his big forehand and backhand winners at very difficult angles. Hitting 12 serve aces in the match, he was able to get out of trouble whenever he needed, thanks
to his impressive serves. Playing very aggressively throughout the contest, he put the challenger under immense pressure.
Ranked 55th in the world, Montanes will be very content with the way he responded to challenges on the court. He will be looking to continue his incredible form in his upcoming matches as well to claim his first title
of this season. Winner of five ATP titles, Montanes is having a very quiet time on the tour this season. He would certainly do his best to change the course of his career.
Capdeville did everything in his powers to stop the onslaught, to his credit. However, he lacked firepower in certain areas of the game. Committing a large number of unforced errors in the match, the Chilean paid the ultimate price.
With a very a poor win to loss record in the year 2011, Capdeville must learn from his mistakes if he wants to do well in his future fixtures on the tour.
Montanes broke the serve twice in the opening set to earn a handsome game score lead. The Spaniard secured more than 90 per cent of the points on his first serve to take the set score lead 1-0. A similar flow of play was observed
in the following set. Montanes continued to inflict blows on his opponent and he completed his straight sets victory with a stunning serve ace.
