Albert Montanes undoes Teymuraz Gabashvili in straight sets at Barcelona Open
Spanish tennis player Albert Montanes, who is ranked Number 6 in his country, recorded an easy victory over Russian tennis pro Teymuraz Gabashvili by defeating the player in straight sets at this year’s Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell.

Although the match lasted longer than a straight-sets win normally does, Montanes was in control of the meeting from the beginning. He started the first set extremely well, firing off three aces while Gabashvili could not score
a single one. Both players committed two double faults apiece in this set, but Gabashvili was unable to defend himself against three of five break points. He broke Montanes once, but the Spanish pro managed to fend off nine of a total of ten break points during
the match. He won the set by scoring nine points more than his opponent to win 56 per cent of the total points played, which resulted in a 6-2 win in the beginning of the match.
The second was less eventful than the first one, as Albert Montanes scored just one ace. Both players did not commit any double faults, and Montanes was not broken even once in this set. However, the Spanish tennis pro managed
to convert four of six break points against Gabashvili successfully and took the lead yet again. The Spanish pro won a total of 60 per cent of the points played in the set, and took eleven points more than his opponent in the second half of the match. The
encounter ended after107 minutes of gameplay, with Albert Montanes winning the set 6-2. The final score-line of the match was 6-2, 6-2.
Albert Montanes is currently ranked World Number 27, and has been part of the pro tour since 1999. The Spanish pro will be competing against French player Benoit Paire in the second round of the clay tournament.
