Albert Pujols’ 11 years with St. Louis Cardinals historic: John Mozeliak – MLB News
The St. Louis Cardinals’ general manager John Mozeliak on Friday, December 9, called the club’s former slugger Albert Pujols’ stint historic. His statement came after the three-time league Most Valuable Player winner agreed to a mega-deal offered by the
Los Angeles Angels.
Having spent 11 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, Albert Pujols had virtually become a seemingly inseparable part of the club, leaving his stamp of excellence on everything that he touched.
If nothing else, his having accomplished the .328 batting average in this period speaks volumes of his ever improving and commanding grip. He maintained .617 slugging percentage with .420 on-base percentage and put in no less than 445 homers.
With a record which is distinct in the contemporary period, where his counterparts can only imagine to achieve such highs, Albert Pujols is confidently bracing himself for Hall of Fame territory, a terrain most players dream to tread.
It was these achievements that set him apart, making him an enviable choice for any team, presenting him as a player to look to with marvel. Therefore, the occasion called for tribute to the ex-Cardinals star.
"I think his 11 years here will always be known as historic," general manager John Mozeliak told reporters on Thursday. "Every one of us who had the ability and opportunity to watch it should all be grateful."
While the news came as no less than exceedingly shocking to the St. Louis Cardinals fans and players, the team manager said there does not have to be a negative way to reflect on the occasion, remembering him as the key member when the Cardinals won the
2011 World Series title.
"I don't think today is a day to reflect in any negative way, because so many great things happened in his time," Mozeliak said. "We had two World Series champions and played in a third, that's a great run and he was most certainly a key member of that."
The fact that he gets this acknowledgement from one of the most senior figures of the team testifies that Pujols stood for something great.
