Albert Pujols favoured over Joey Votto for National League MVP?
The 2010 Major League Baseball season has concluded and it doesn’t take much to know that the top team in the game is none other the San Francisco Giants.
However, with all the commotion going into the debate of the top players in the year, the road takes a different turn. The Gold Glove awards and the Silver Slugger awards took place recently and as teams are looking to build on their existing squad with
good free agents in the market, the discussion on the best players elevates to a new peak.
The free agents’ market comprises of about 160 players, with Cliff Lee, Derek Jeter, Jayson Werth, Carl Crawford and Adrian Beltre heading the top tier in the wish lists of many teams. The chase to sign the best players in the field is on. The run for the
best players may seem like a harsh ride to the spring training season but as time cedes by there will be good bids made across the country to attain the right flock of batters, pitchers, and outfielders in the vacant shops.
While the managerial divisions in the ball clubs are focusing on identifying the best available options in the markets. The players are crossing their fingers and hoping for better luck at the awards.
For the Cincinnati Reds, the awards have been a testament to their defensive and offensive improvements in the line-up. One particular player in focus, however, has been gaining all the accolades in the awards. Albert Pujols has attained both the Gold Glove
and the Silver Slugger awards. The awards are decided and voted upon by managers and coaches from all 30 teams in Major League Baseball.
For Pujols, the accomplishment isn’t his first. The hitter won the slugging award for the 3rd consecutive year and this pushes his totals tally to 6. However, one thing to consider here is whether the star batter deserved the accolade more than
Joey Votto.
The new hitter was 2nd this season in the National League batting averages. In addition, the player led the on base plus slugging average with 1.0124. However, in Runs, RBIs (Runs Batted In) and Home Runs, Pujols leads the score considerably.
Nevertheless, it’s important to note that Pujols bats ahead of Votto, which begs the question, is Pujols going to clinch the National League Most Valuable Player award when the deserving person should be Joey? If that ever happens, it will cause a big upset
for a player, who has just come into Major League Baseball.
