Albert Pujols’ performance helps St. Louis Cardinals defeat Florida Marlins 7-4 - MLB Update

St. Louis Cardinals’ first baseman, Albert Pujols was outstanding with the bat as he scored three runs including a one-run homer and went 3-for-4 with an average of .280 in the Cardinals’ 7-4 win against the Florida Marlins at Sun Life Stadium, Florida on
August 4.
Both teams started like a campaigner as the Cardinals blasted three runs at the top of the first while the Marlins also stepped on the gas to burst three runs equally and tied the game 3-all at the end of the first inning. Matt Holliday struck a three-run
homer (374 feet) towards left-field to move the Cardinals on a scoring track while Jon Jay and Pujols both made two collective runs to finish the three-run campaign.
On the other side, Emilio Bonifacio posted the first run for the Marlins when Omar Infante hit a double-run shot towards deep right-centre. The second and third runs for the Marlins were taken by Infante and Gaby Sanchez when Logan Morrison drove towards
deep centre-field. The pitchers had a control over the second inning as they stopped the runs of the batters.
Cardinals went ahead 6-3 by posting three runs again during the third inning. David Freese hit towards the pitcher while Pujols completed a single run in time. The next two runs at the top of the third inning were taken by Holliday and Lance Berkman when
Skip Schumaker hit a double-run shot towards shallow right-field.
In the fourth inning, Pujols hit a huge shot for a one-run homer (404 feet) towards left-centre to raise the Cardinals’ lead 7-3. The batters seemed to be shakier from fifth to seventh inning as compared to the initial innings and were unable to disclose
their abilities.
Cardinals’ starter, Kyle Lohse pitched just three innings and allowed three earned runs with an ERA of 3.46. He had only one strike-out on his 74 pitches while permitted three walks, seven hits and three runs. Marlins were able to add just one run during
the eighth inning to curtail their deficit 7-4.
Greg Dobbs singled off left-field, Mike Cameron added one run and Ben Petersen moved to second base to end the eighth inning. As a result, the Cardinals confirmed a 1-0 lead in the four-game series played at Florida.
