Albert Pujols wins glory for the St. Louis Cardinals – MLB World Series Update
There was a lot at stake for the St. Louis Cardinals when Game 3 started on Saturday. The Cardinals were in great need of a strong show by their team. The hope materialized as Albert Pujols did the unthinkable.
Pujols pounded three home-runs on Saturday, October 22 to enable the team with a marvellous 16-7 victory, securing a much-sought 2-1 lead in the World Series. This was arguably one of the most fascinating performances in World Series’ history.
Prior to this blitz that Albert Pujols earned on Saturday, only Babe Ruth and Reggie Jackson had the distinction to have more than three home-runs in any World Series game.
The team had just lost the Thursday’s Game 2 in the ninth inning when Ian Kinsler turned the tide against the Cardinals just when the latter had a 1-0 lead.
"It's an honor to be in there in the same category as those guys," Pujols said. "But I just thank God that I was able to come out today and help our ballclub to win and hopefully I can do that tomorrow again."
St. Louis Cardinals have had 10 World Series titles so far in their Major League Baseball history. Comparatively not-so-strong when the regular season began, the Cardinals traversed some tortuous paths to journey into the World Series.
Albert Pujols’ hits on Saturday travelled as far as 424 feet, making him one of the hard hitters of the ball.
“It doesn't matter how far it goes," Pujols said. "At that time, we needed a score. I just went up there and looked for a good pitch to hit. He's a great pitcher but he left the ball up and I put up my best swing of the night."
With a lot to be desired from the St. Louis Cardinals, the team has silenced many of their critics on Saturday. The lead that favours the team now is something that has to be defended, as Albert Pujols continues to bring glory to the Cardinals as the World
Series enters a decisive phase.
