Albert Ramos cripples Julian Knowle in opening round – Proton Malaysian Open 2012
Spanish challenger, Albert Ramos, crushed the Austrian qualifier, Julian Knowle, with a breadstick at the Proton Malaysian Open 2012 on Tuesday. He penned down a 6-1, 6-4 success against the Austrian veteran to secure a place in the round of 16 at this indoor
hard court event held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Barcelona native showed brilliant tennis skills to outsmart Knowle in their first encounter at the Putra Indoor Stadium in Bukit Jalil. After earning the fame in one hour and nine minutes, Ramos took lead in the FedEx ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals)
Head 2 Head Series by 1-0 against the 38-year-old and advanced into the second round.
Ramos thundered into this ATP World Tour 250 Series event. He drew the first blood in the second game and jumped to a 3-0 lead. After Knowle held his serve in the fourth game, the Spaniard bagged the last three games and clicked the opener with a breadstick.
He smoothly swiped his entire serves without facing any trouble and cashed in half of the four break chances to move a step closer towards the glory.
Ranked 48th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Ramos lost his track towards the following set. He suffered the first blow in the second game and fell at 0-3. However, the Spaniard unleashed his skills and stroke out the last
five games in a row, eventually sealing the set by winning six games to four. He dusted away one out of two breakpoints he faced and converted two out of three break chances to his advantage.
The left-hander from Spain dominated throughout the clash. He fired 14 aces and ended the match with 62 points. Ramos nudged up a lower first serve share of 65 per cent as opposed to his rival’s 70 per cent but superbly marked 24 out of 30 points on it.
He spilled more double faults but clicked four out of seven break chances to dominate.
Next in line for Ramos is the third seed, Kei Nishikori from Japan. The Asian number one received a first round bye after being a top four player at this event.
