Albert Ramos crushes Javier Marti to enter the second round – San Sebastian Challengers 2011
Spanish tennis pro Albert Ramos eased past compatriot Javier Marti 6-3, 6-1 on Monday to book his place in the second round of 2011 San Sebastian Challengers tournament here in San Sebastian, Spain. Ramos made a slow start to the
match but as the match progressed he raised his game to higher level to earn a superb straight sets victory.
Top seeded at the Association of Tennis Professionals tournament, Ramos looked to attack from his opponent right from the word go. Executing his game plan to perfection, he created all sorts of problems for his opponent from deep
behind the baseline. Breaking the serve twice in the opening set, Ramos raced to a vital 5-1. Breaking straight back, Marti reduced the game score deficit to 3-5. However, Ramos continued to played aggressively as he clinched his service game at 5-3 to take
the set score lead 1-0.
The Spaniard played even better tennis in the following set as he did not allow Javier to breathe at any moment. Breaking the serve three times in the set, he raced to an impassable lead. Ramos had no problems holding on to his
service games as he completed an emphatic victory in a match that lasted for only 1 hour and 10 minutes on the red clay courts of San Sebastian.
Ramos adopted a very aggressive approach in the match as he tried the hit and volley technique on several occasion to earn cheap points. His strong ground strokes from the baseline. He also executed the drop shots very well to
surprise his opponent every now and then.  However his powerful and on-target service was his real asset as he converted an impressive 69 per cent of the points on his first serve.
Hitting a decent 59 per cent first serve, Ramos took control of the points right from the start and then placed his gorgeous forehand and backhand winners all over the court. Converting five out of thirteen break points in the
match, the Spaniard really made the most of available opportunities.  Saving two out of three break points, goes on to suggest that he had his defence intact as well.
Claiming more than half of the points on his opponent’s serve, Ramos did really well in the serve return department of the game. He will be hoping to continue his good form in his upcoming matches at the tournament as well. However
consistency and confidence will play a key role in a field full of fierce competitors.
