Albert Ramos knocks out Evgeny Korolev in the second round – SkiStar Swedish Open 2012
Seeded third in the draw, Albert Ramos of Spain, did not face any difficulty in disposing off Kazakhstan’s 435th ranked player, Evgeny Korolev, in the second round at the SkiStar Swedish Open in Bastad, Sweden on Thursday.
The Spaniard dropped just six games in the entire encounter and clinched it 6-3, 6-3 in only an hour and 22 minutes.
Ramos and Korolev started in a stable manner, as they won their serve in the opening four games to take the score to 2-2. They exchanged a break in the following two and evened out the proceedings at 3-3. It was an all Ramos show
later on, as he grabbed three games in a row, striking in the eighth and capitalising on it to triumph 6-3.
The Spaniard banged in three aces but also committed a couple of double faults in the first set. The 6ft 2in tall put in 68 percent of the first serves and secured 19 of the 26 points on them. The left-hander could not give a good
performance on the second deliveries, as he dropped seven of the 12 points on them but compensated by winning eight of the 12 points on second returns. The Spanish contestant saved five of the six break points he faced and converted two of the four he received.
Korolev started brilliantly in the second set, as he captured opening three games to build a 3-0 lead. However, the Kazakh player gave a disappointing performance after that, as he failed to win even single game till the end. Korolev
got broken three times, losing six in a row and dropping the second set 3-6.
Ramos smacked two aces and committed one double fault, keeping his first serve percentage at 72 and pocketing 12 of the 18 points on them. The Mataro, Spain resident continuously attacked Korolev’s deliveries, as he grabbed 11
of the 21 first and eight of the 13 second return points.
The 24-year-old will take on Bulgaria’s sixth seeded player, Grigor Dimitrov, in the quarter-finals. Dimitrov thrashed the world number 114, Frederico Gil of Portugal, in the second round.
