Albert Ramos outclasses Teymuraz Gabashvili to move into the main draw – China Open 2011
Seeded at number two in the qualifying draw of the China Open, Albert Ramos of Spain outplayed the eighth seeded Russian, Teymuraz Gabashvili, in the qualifying competition on Sunday. The Spaniard wrapped up the contest at 6-3,
6-2, taking just one hour and twenty three minutes of play, ejecting Gabashvili from the competition in an assertive manner.
The contest was staged on the indoor hard courts of the Olympic Green Tennis Center, in Beijing, China, with Ramos registering a straight sets victory to earn a place in the main rounds of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals)
World Tour 500 event. It was a pretty one-sided contest, as he Spaniard dominated for most of the time to dispose of Gabashvili from the competition with the utmost ease.
The Russian contestant failed to cope with his opponent’s furry in the game and had no option but to succumb in the second set. Gabashvili’s error-ridden game wore him out in the contest, as he coughed a number of errant strokes,
including six expensive double faults. The Spaniard’s pin-point hitting throughout the contest was poorly met by Gabashvili, whose most returns ended long and wide of the court.
Ramos got the first jolt in the matchup, when the Russian broke him in the very first game of the match to trail 0-2 early. The Spaniard recovered immediately to register his first break point of the day in the fourth game to level
the scores at 2-2. Another serve break from Ramos in the eighth game assisted him to close out the first set at 6-3, giving him substantial 1-0 lead in the competition.
The Spaniard carried on his belligerence in the next as well and clinched 11 out of 15 first serve points in to inch closer to victory. Ramos Nailed to successive serve breaks in the fifth and seventh game of the second set to
conclude a comprehensive victory in his favour at 6-2. Gabashvili utterly failed to craft a single break chance in the second set and secured just six points on his serve to end his voyage at the China Open.
Ramos will play his opening round match in the main draw against the unseeded German, Florian Mayer, for a place in the second round. Mayer won his first ATP singles title a week ago, when he claimed the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy
after defeating the defending champion, Pablo Andujar.
