Albert Ramos surpasses Victor Hanescu in 1st round – BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy 2011
The BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy 2011, Bucharest, Romania, continued on Tuesday, 20th September, with Albert Ramos, Spaniard, playing his first round match against the 30-year-old Romanian, Victor Hanescu on classic red
clay circuit. The two stormed in on each other before the Spaniard launched off the clay winning 6-4, 6-3 in an hour and eighteen minutes.
Aged 23, Ramos went on against the old dog for the third time altogether and the second time this season. The world No.87, Ramos, had a superior chance of winning the opening round match as he had a perfect prior ten match record.
Winning 8 matches, including the win in San Sebastian Challenger, the Spaniard enjoyed his best form of the season.
Nevertheless, the match started off on schedule. With the court overflowing with fans there to watch the local star, the two started off the battle with Hanescu serving for the first game of the match. Lighting up the fixture from
the start, the two went into a breakpoint game instantly. However, the Romanian saved the breakpoint and rolled down the scoreboard, 1-0.
Levelling up next, the 23-year-old swiped off game 2 in no time and switched back the serve. As the two won one game more each, 2-2, Ramos bombed the local lad with a break-serve-break technique and led the set 5-2. Hanescu did
follow with a break-n-serve tactic, however, serving out game 10, the 23-year-old eased to his first set win, 6-4.
Starting off with the second set, the local lad opened up against scoring the first game, 1-0. With an instant level up the two stood equal once again, 1-1. Serving out on respective serves the scores scorched up to 2-2 before
the world No.87 struck.
Breaking the higher ranked rival, Ramos paved away as he broke-n served to lead 4-3. Cutting down the lead to 4-3, Hanescu served out game 7, however, could not break back to level up. Serving out game 8, the Spaniard once again
extended his lead before he smacked the final game breaking the Romanian and winning the set 6-3, and the match 2-0 to walk on to the next round.
More of an effortless wins for the 23-year-old, Ramos secured 36 service points and 25 returners totalling 61 points, against 45 of Hanescu, to his straight set win. The Spaniard sits in the 2nd round pool as he waits
for a rival to fill up the seat against him.
