Albert Subirats and Fabiola Molina face suspension from competitive swimming – Swimming news
Fabiola Molina of Brazil has been suspended from competitive swimming events, after testing positive for dope at an event in Rio de Janeiro, in April, 2011. Albert Subirats of Venezuela, on the other hand, was handed with a one-year’s ban under FINA’s anti-doping policy.
The FINA Doping Panel (FDP) disclosed that the Venezuelan swimmer was suspended after he was unable to inform FINA's anti-doping authorities about his whereabouts on three occasions, within a period of 18 months. The panel further confirmed that Subirats will be banned for one year and will be unable to take part in any upcoming competitive swimming event.
While speaking about his suspension, Subirats commented that he has no idea about his one-year suspension. He added that he kept informing the Venezuelan Swimming Federation about his all dope test reports and inquiries on a regular basis.
On the other hand, Molina has to face a two-month suspension from the Brazilian Swimming Federation. She took a banned stimulant, methylhexaneamine, which became the actual reason for her suspension.
Both of them are professionally dedicated swimmers and the incident had left swimming enthusiasts disappointed.
Subirats won the gold medal in the Men’s 50m butterfly finals at the 2010 World championships in Dubai. He won five gold medals at the 2006 Central African and Caribbean Games in Cartagena. In addition, the Venezuelan swimmer took home four gold titles at the 2010 South African Games in Medellin. Despite his brilliant performances in the past, Molina has not won any major title in competitive swimming events up to now.
The suspension of Venezuelan swimmer, Albert Subirats, has certainly reduced his chances to be able to qualify for next year’s Olympic trials. There is no denying that the event of Olympics has a huge significance in every sportsman life, so it might be an inappropriate time for Subirats to stay away from the London 2012 Olympics competition.
Molina certainly has a good chance of making a comeback in next year’s Olympic trials, as the break might give her the chance to prepare in a more eager manner for the biggest stage in the world of sport.
