Short Course World champion and Venezuelan expert, Albert Subirats demonstrated his smothering efforts in the Men’s 100m butterfly final on day six of the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico on Thursday, October 20.
Just like the Olympic Games, the Pan American Games take place every fourth year and is one of the biggest international events.
Subirats qualified as the fifth finest swimmer into the final behind his competitors Gabriel Mangabeira, Christopher Brady, Omar Andres Pinzon and Shaune Fraser.
The 25-year-old Venezuelan swimmer faced tough time from his competitors in the long course butterfly event. Subirats became evident as the second strongest swimmer in the first lap, but accelerated his swim in the final round to serve notice of his talent
and reached the podium for gold medal.
USA’s Brady emerged as the fastest swimmer in the first-lap, where he completed his swim in a time of 24.53 seconds. He was followed by Subirats, who remained just 0.01 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and covered the same distance in 24.54 seconds.
In next half of the race, the following swimmer geared up his efforts and shatter hopes of his competitors in a ruthless manner. He sprinted his way towards the finishing wall in a time of 27.83 seconds to post 52.37 seconds on the board for gold medal.
With his commendable effort, the champion remained almost a stroke ahead of his subsequent competitor, USA’s Eugene Godsoe. The American was just 0.30 seconds slower than gold medallist and stepped on the podium for silver medal after clocking a time of
52.67 seconds.
Brady, who dictated terms to his challengers in the first half failed to answer scintillating efforts of his opponents in the final-lap. He was only 0.28 seconds behind his former finisher and reached the podium for bronze medal by submitting an effort of
52.95 seconds.
The crowd went wild with the extraordinary efforts of all finalists, who tried hard to earn their spots on the podium whereas the winners received their medals after the completion of the session.
Furthermore, the swimming events will conclude on October 21 after the completion of all scheduled events.
