Alberta, Canada residents?

This is for anyone in Alberta, what is the best city to live in, in your opinion? This isn't for some kind of school paper, just for my own benefit. I am trying to narrow down my search for homes (my family may be moving there in the furure) and I would like to know of some cities that have good school districts and have plenty of stuff to do for the children as well as adults? Is Calgary or Banff a good place to live?

If not Alberta, what other places would you recommend?

We live in the Us currently.

  1. Try one of the smaller cities in the southern part of the province.  Edmonton and Calgary are really, really expensive.

Banff?  No way.  It's just one big tourist town.

I'd try Medicine Hat - a medium sized city (by Canadian standards) that has nice weather, decent housing, etc.

  2. I do not care for Edmonton but personal preference. I would recommend: Calgary, Lethbridge, Canmore, Okotoks, High River, or Airdrie.

  3. I don't live in Alberta anymore, but lived there for 6 years.

Calgary is a good place. Banff is extremely expensive and because it's a national park there's little, if any, building going on. Canmore, just a few minutes east of Banff, has more availability but is also extremely expensive.

I was never fond of Edmonton, personally, but that's just my personal opinion.

Medicine Hat is an OK town. Lethbridge is nice too, pretty windy though.

Bear in mind that winters in Alberta are very harsh.

  4. You can't live in Banff unless you work there.   Plus finding a place is difficult.

Canmore is a good option if you want to live in the mountains but is very expensive.

Calgary and area is great.  You could live in one of the smaller communities around Calgary if you didn't want to be in a big city.    We're only an hour from the mountains.  :)
