Alberta Britani ousts Irina Falconi in the 1st round – Texas Open 2011

World number 55 Alberta Britani competed against world number 78 Irina Falconi in the main draw of the Texas Open 2011. The Italian out-manoeuvred the American in 1 hour and 34 minutes of play on the hard courts of the Hilton DFW
Lakes in Grapevine, Texas in straight sets of 6-3, 6-2 victory.
The Italian struck zero double faults with her geometric precision and with an excellent serve hit 57% of her first serves on target and with an 83% in her first serves she eventually bagged an ostentatious 81% win in her total
service points. Whereas, Falconi also had a good first serve win but lost most of her points because of a poor second serve, hence amassing only 53% of her total service points.
Britani attained a 19 out of 40 points by utilizing her strong back hand, making it a 48% of her total return points, against her adversary, who was only able to clinch 4 out 21 points, making it a pathetic 19% of her total returns.
Moreover, the 31 year-old did not give a competitive edge to her opponent as she was able to save both of her break points and instead capitalized on 40% of her break points won. Mean while, the home-girl not only had a pathetic
serve and return serves but she was unable to win any of her break points.
Italian had won the set with a grand 11 points more than Falconi’s and now was looking to bag the second set.
The second set also saw a comprehensive victory for the Italian as she was able to break her opponent 3 out of the 7 times and gained a competitive edge, along with saving 80% of her total break points, while, the 21 year-old Falconi
only saved 4 out of 7 break points and capitalized on 20% of break points won.
With a strong forehand she struck well placed shots near the baseline and managed to win 55% of her total service points while restricting her opponent to 18 out of 40 points, making it a 45% win in her total return points.
The French had a poor serve and was unable to hit big, and thus, achieved 44% of her total service points but her opponent was rallying all her shots and placing volleys that won her 56% of her total service points.
Despite her age, the 31 year-old made her younger challenger run around the court in circles and out played her with her technique and skill, by accomplishing 56% in her total set score and 9 more points than her adversary, she
was able to qualify for the second round.
