The Italian Football Federation Vice-President believes that the two giants are still the favourites to bag the top two spots in Group C, despite the draw in their first game.
IFGC Vice-President, Demetrio Albertini, believes that the 1-1 stalemate in the clash between Italy and Spain is a delightful result for both the sides, and has stated that the two teams remain the favourites to qualify for the
next stage of the tournament from Euro 2012 Group C.
The Azzurri held Spain to a 1-1 draw in their opening match of the Euros, while Croatia lead the group after thrashing Ireland 3-1 on Sunday.
Albertini believes that while both the teams had adequate opportunities to take the three points from the match, they will happily take the draw since it is better than a defeat.
The FIGC chief stated that the match was a wonderful clash between two titans of European football, and insisted that Italy and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 have proved that they are two great sides.
While talking to the press, the 40-year-old said:
“The draw would have satisfied both sides. Both teams will be happy with a point. We saw a game between two great sides and either one of them could have gone home with all three points.”
There were tactical surprises from both the competitors on Sunday as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 opted for Juventus’s -5-2 system, and Spain chose against fielding a recognized striker in their starting line-up.
Albertini was all praise for Italy’s display of quality football against the World Champions, and stated that the attractive display underlines the vast amount of experience that is embodied by the Azzurri squad.
The FIGC official was rather sceptic of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vicente-c36001 Del Bosque’s creative tactics in the crucial game, pointing out that the defending Champions could have done better with a genuine striker at the front.
However, the chief maintained that the Spanish had their chances in the game, and only have themselves to blame for not eliciting three points from the match.
Albertini was hopeful that Italy will do even better in their next Euro clash against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Croatia-c2879, and maintained that his money is on the Azzurri and La Roja to move to the quarter-finals from Group C.
