http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alberto-c4309 Aquilani, the 26-year-old Italian midfielder, revealed he was looking forward to returning to Liverpool after spending more than a season with Juventus on loan, despite reports claiming otherwise.
The Reds midfielder confirmed his desire to return to Anfield while speaking to reporters, he said:
“I return to Liverpool with great enthusiasm. This is not a problem. It's not true that I didn't want to return to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749.”
Aquilani began his senior career with Serie A side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 in the 2002-2003 season, making just two appearances before he was loaned out to Triestina.
After returning to Roma he spent five years at the Italian side, making a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Total-c40747 of 147 appearances in all competitions and scoring 15 goals.
Just a few months after signing a contract extension with Roma in 2009, it was announced Aquilani would be joining Liverpool.
With an initial fee of £17 million, Aquilani arrived at Anfield on a long-term five year deal under the management of Rafa Benitez.
The versatile midfielder was a flop at the Premier League, being mostly used as a substitute. He scored two goals in 26 appearances in his debut season for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809.
It was after the departure of Benitez and his replacement with English manager Roy Hodgson that saw Aquilani fall out of favour.
Hodgson refused to even reserve a substitute role for Aquilani, claiming the Italian had a better chance of playing football by moving back to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926.
It was then that Liverpool reached an agreement with Juventus over a loan move for the Italian midfielder, with an added option of a permanent move.
Despite having received a chance at regular football at Juventus, as promised by the Serie A outfit, Aquilani found the back of the net just twice in 34 appearances.
At the end of the season Juventus made it clear they did not wish to make the loan deal permanent, which meant the midfielder had to return to Liverpool.
Despite previous claims about being unhappy in England, Aquilani now seems to be more than happy to be returning to the Reds.
However, that could have more to do with the change in management that anything else. Hodgson was sacked mid-season and replaced by Kenny Dalglish.
Dalglish revealed he was certain Aquilani would fit in well with his plans for Liverpool for the upcoming season.  He said:
“When people talk about next season, I'm surprised they don't give Alberto a mention. Everyone seems to have forgotten about him.
I know he has done really well at Juventus this season. When the loan finishes at the end of the season, he reverts back to being a Liverpool player.
Nothing is cast in stone and he could be coming back to play for Liverpool. He could be a valuable asset here next season. He's still our player.”
