Alberto Contador eyeing Tour de France 2012 – Cycling News
Spanish cyclist Alberto Contador is still waiting on the doping results as the date of his hearing before the Court of Arbitration for Sport has been postponed till November 2011. The cyclist however is keen to ride at the Tour de France 2012 as the rider
will also take part in his home grand tour Vuelta a Espana 2012 which he has not participated in since 2008.
While commenting about his future plans the cyclist told Teledeporte, “For 2012, the Tour will be my number one objective. First I will pick interesting races and take them on to prepare myself to the best. And then I might also ride the Vuelta."
The Spaniard tested positive for Clenbuterol during the Tour de France 2010 and is still waiting on the results. He finished the race at first position and will be stripped of the victory depending upon the results which are due next month. Contador rejected
the accusations as he stated that the Clenbuterol found in his blood came from contaminated beef and he has not cheated in the game in any way.
The 28-year-old revealed his future plans as he mentioned that he will be participating at the Tirreno-Adriatico as he told El Mundo. He stated, "In principal my season will include races like Tirreno-Adriatico, Volta a Catalunya and the Vuelta a Pais Vasco.
I'd then like to ride the Dauphine to get ready for the Tour de France."
The investigation is still under process however the cyclist is free to participate in any event as he won the Giro d’ Italia 2011 and finished the Tour de France at fifth position. Contador enjoyed racing at the Giro d’ Italia as he mentioned that it is
the best race he has ever participated in. He commented that Giro d’ Italia 2011 was extraordinarily well organised and the course was really eye catching.
A one year ban was imposed on Contador by the Spanish Cycling Federation in January 2011 but the cyclist was cleared of the charges after he appealed. World Anti-Doping Agency and UCI both have appealed against the Spanish Cycling Federation’s decision in
the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Contador however remains free of charges as the decision has been postponed from July to November 2011. The cyclist is keen to continue his career and it will be interesting to see if the former champion walks out of the court free of all accusations.
