Alberto Contador interested in riding the Giro d’Italia as well as the Tour de France in 2013

While attending the Giro d’ Italia 2013 course presentation, Alberto Contador of Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank has noted that he is not ruling out the possibility to ride the Italian Grand Tour next year.
The Spaniard is considered as the best stage-race cyclist and although, Tour de France is the biggest goal of the season ahead, the cyclist will still be lining up for the Giro as he revealed during the ceremony.
While commenting on the coming Italian Grand Tour, he noted that the course looks quite fair and is equally balanced with the time trial stages followed by the big mountains.
He noted that the interesting factor about the coming Giro is that, the race gets tough right from the start as some of the toughest climbs come in the beginning of the event.
“The team time trial and that mountain time trial will make a big difference,” he warned.
“On top of that, the final week is really very demanding, with some really tough summit finishes”.
“It’s a Giro that could suit me quite well, but I don’t know my schedule yet”.
“I’ll wait and see what the presentations of the other grand tours bring, and then make a decision on what I ride next year based on that”.
The 29-year-old briefed that the biggest goal of his life is to win three Grand Tours in a single season and also admits that it is unlikely to happen and he has no plans to achieve this goal in 2013.
“I think it would be very difficult. It’s hard to balance the three weeks of racing with four weeks off between the Giro, Tour and Vuelta,” he said.
Contador holds the honour of winning as many as five Grand Tours out of his six participations which include One Giro d’Italia (2008), two Tour de France (2007, 2009) and two Vuelta a Espana (2008, 2012) overall victories throughout his career.
He finished 30th during his debut Tour de France participation back in 2005 and he is hungry to register the third Tour de France victory in 2013.
Alberto returned to professional cycling at the Eneco Tour 2012 and missed all the important races of the year including the Tour de France, the Giro d’Italia and the 2012 Olympic Games.
The only important race he was able to participate this year was the Vuelta a Espana 2012 and he managed to secure the first overall position after a splendid show of his abilities.
