Alberto Contador not participating in World Championships – Cycling News
Two time Tour de France winner Alberto Contador does not seems too happy with his current team as he believes that ‘a more powerful team’ is required to win two big events like Tour de France and Giro ‘d Italia.
“You need to have stages that suit you, either a prologue, a Mountain Time trial or two time trials. But not a team time trial if you don’t have a strong team. With attention to detail like this and good preparation, you can win both the Giro and the Tour
in the same season,” according to Contador.
Alberto stated that he had a bad start in the Tour de France and also that the route chosen by the officials this year did not suit him. He lost precious time as he was involved in a crash during first stage and also during team time trials of stage two.
Contador finished fifth in this year’s Tour de France as he was 3:57 behind the Australian Cadel Evans, who won this year’s Tour.
He commented that he has tried his best even after the crashes although he accepted the fact that he was not that well prepared this year. Contador who has already won the Tour de France two times was not disappointed with his fifth position as he said that
he is pretty happy the way Tour goes.
Contador has no plans to ride the Vuelta a Espana nor the World Championships as he believes that the route for tournament is pretty flat this year and does not suit him. Race is scheduled in Denmark and it will be quite helpful as the Spaniard is also in
a Danish team but he definitely has no plans about the race for now.
Alberto is still waiting for a hearing which was due in August this year but has again been postponed till November 2011. He said that it is pretty sad that it is still in progress and that it is common for such trials to be delayed but he is hopeful that
all this ends soon in his favour.
