Alberto Contador received a warm reception at the island of Grand Canaria as Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank finalise the 2013 roster
Alberto Contador continuous his 2013 preparations at the island of Grand Canaria and was accompanied by as many as 20,000 cycling fans from different parts of the world.
Thousands of tourists alongside the coast of Las Palmas rode along the whole Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank squad as the Danish side completes its roster for the season ahead.
The team hired as many as ten new cyclists with different Nationalities for the new season and the cyclists rode with each other to get to know each other better.
Cyclists will perform different activities during the three-day camp, for instance, for the first day they were divided into two teams to play soccer, volley ball, beach, scuba diving and jet skiing amongst them.
The new comer Timmy Duggan celebrated his 30th birthday, “I feel completely relaxed, natural and calm in the company of everyone on the team, and it is a good prerequisite for the work to be done in 2013.”
“The entire session here provides us with a common experience that we talk about throughout the year so on the internal social sphere it has been a great success for us all”.
Similarly, Rory Sutherland who has also signed the Danish outfit for the 2013 season noted that, he is enjoying the activities at the three-day camp scheduled by the team.
“Thanks to my upbringing in Australia where we often spent a couple of days here and there to explore the outback,” said Rory.
“But this experience has certainly been good for the new members of the team because I have had a chance to get to know everyone,” he concluded.
Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank’s performance in the current season was below expectations mainly because it had to ride without Alberto Contador.
However, Team Manager Bjarne Riis has done well in bringing the team together, finding a new sponsor and finalising the team for the season ahead.
Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff bank new signings for the season ahead include,  Timothy Duggan (Liquigas-Cannondale), Evgeni Petrov (Astana), Rory Sutherland (United Healthcare), Roman Kreuziger (Astana), Matti Breschel (Rabobank), Nicolas Roche (AG2R La Mondiale), Marko
Kump (Adria Mobil), Daniele Bennati and Oliver Zaugg (RadioShack-Nissan) and Jay McCarthy (Team Jayco-AIS).
