Alberto Contador to continue with Team Saxo Bank for the 2012 season
Alberto Contador is all set to mark his return to professional cycling at the Eneco Tour 2012. The cyclist has revealed that he will continue with the Danish side, Team Saxo Bank, for the remaining part of the season.
The Spaniard revealed that a number of teams have approached him but he has decided to finish the current contract with Team Saxo Bank.
He explained, "I'm working on it [contract negotiations - ed.]. There were six interested teams, amongst them Movistar".
"But without a doubt, my priority is the Saxo Bank Team, who gave me their unconditional support through these difficult times, and that's something that money can't buy. There are things you need to honour and they are priceless," he concluded.
He joined the Danish squad in 2011, and has been a real asset for the team. Almost 70 % of the total points earned by the team came through Contador.
Even though, CAS disqualified Alberto from all the wins since the Tour de France 2010 but no one can point a finger on his brilliance.
The 29-year-old was handed a two-year ban after being for using unfair means during the Tour de France 2010.
The jury also disqualified him from all the victories since the Tour de France 2010 and the ban prevented him from riding all the important cycling events of the season.
He will miss the opportunity to be present at the 2012 Olympic Games, Tour de France and the Giro d’ Italia 2012.
The only big race Contador is allowed to participate in is the Vuelta a Espana and the Spaniard is optimistic to please his home fans by securing his second overall victory at the Spanish race.
He succeeded during the 2008 version of the race along with the 13th and the 14th stages of the race.
He explained, "I will prepare for it in the best possible way. But the sport is not made of maths, a lot of things can happen. I want to be at the start in a good state of form".
Alberto has also shown interest in riding the UCI World Championships in Limburg Netherlands.
