Alberto Contador to  leave Team Saxo Bank after his return, Danish Media reports
Alberto Contador’s suspension from professional cycling ends in August, which makes him eligible to enjoy the top level of sport with any team of his choice.
His contract with the Danish side, Team Saxo Bank was void right after the Court of Arbitration for Sport handed him a two-year ban.
Team Saxo Bank is quite willing to sign the cyclist back because of the fact that he was the main man behind the team’s success in the past season.
Almost 67 % of the total points earned by the side came through Contador and his departure has now put a question mark on the team’s World Tour license.
However, the Danish media revealed earlier this week that the Spaniard might not rejoin the team after completing the ban period.
It has also been reported that Alberto is willing to sign a deal with Team Movistar to continue the remaining part of the season.
Danish news paper BT printed the news of Contador being “displeased” with Team Saxo Bank and was already looking to switch over.
Both the parties have denied the news and the cyclist’s brother Fran previously told sporten.dk, “We will be in talks with Bjarne soon, and Alberto would like to continue working with him”.
Team Saxo Bank immediately responded to the rumour, “We have repeatedly said that we would like to continue working with Alberto when he can race again, and Alberto has clearly expressed that he sees things the same way. This is what we relate to, not rumour”.
The 29-year-old was accused of using clenbuterol during the Tour de France and was banned from professional cycling in February 2012.
He is now prohibited to ride all the major cycling events of the season including the Tour de France, The Giro di Italia and the 2012 London Olympics.
Alberto has also been disqualified from all the victories since the 2010 edition of the French Grand Tour. The only major cycling race he can ride is the Vuelta a Espana.
It will be exciting to witness if Contador continues his professional pursuit with the Danish team or signs up with his home side, Team Movistar, to continue his professional campaign.
