Alberto Contador will not appeal against the CAS decision
The last date for Alberto Contador to appeal against the CAS decision has expired on April 2, 2012.
It appears the cyclist has quietly accepted the decision made by Court of Arbitration for Sport to ban him for a period of two years.
Contador was tested positive during the Tour de France 2010 and Spanish Cycling Federation initially banned him for a period of six months.
The cyclist appealed against the decision and RFEC allowed him to continue with the team. UCI and WADA appealed against the decision and the case was forwarded to CAS.
Court of Arbitration for Sport took its time and the final decision on the case was made on February 2012.
The jury imposed a two-year ban on Alberto which prevents the cyclist from riding all the major cycling events of the season including the Tour de France, Giro d’ Italia and the 2012 Olympic Games.
He has also been disqualified from all the major cycling events since the Tour de France 2010 including the overall wins at the Tour de France 2010 and the Giro d’ Italia 2011.
It was believed earlier that the cyclist might appeal against the decision. He had a period of 30 days after the decision in Swiss Federal Court.
While commenting on the issue Contador told El Mundo, "According to my lawyers, it made no sense to appeal the case, as it would have ended up again at the CAS anyway. Meanwhile, I have lost all faith in sports law".
Contador also claimed the second overall position in the Tour de San Luis, along with the third and the fifth stage victory in the race.
"We inherited this case, and we patiently waited for a decision. All along, we followed the rules and because Alberto was cleared [by the RFEC in early 2011]".
"We have asked ourselves many times during this case, could we as a team have done things any differently? I really don't think we could have done things differently than what we have done trying to support every one of our riders," he concluded.
The 29-year-old is currently training for his return on 5th of August 2012.
