The Genoa president backs the striker stating that he is not disappointed with the goal-scorer as he is not playing in his favourite position.
Genoa president, Enrico Preziosi, has come to the defence of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alberto-Gilardino-c4324, who is currently facing the music from the media following a not-so-impressive run since his transfer to Genoa.
The Rossoblu chief insists that the former Fiorentina striker does not deserve the blunt side of critics, as the player has not been allowed to play in his preferred position. The President dismissed all such notions that the
player is being labelled as a disappointment by the club management, and insisted that the striker is still part of the club’s plans for the future.
The 29-year-old was acquired by the Marassi outfit from Fiorentina for a reported sum of around €8million, but the star’s contribution to the club so far has failed to justify the price tag.
While talking to the press, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Toy-c35496 tycoon said:
“He doesn’t deserve the criticism. I’m not disappointed by him and he’s part of our project. He’s not playing in the position that he should be. He’s a penalty area player, but he’s almost playing as a second striker to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rodrigo-c31437
Palacio.”
The President went on to joke that the criticism was on Palacio rather than the manager Pasquale Marino.
Gilardino has managed to net just one for his side in the eight appearances so far this season, and that is a vital reason behind Genoa’s struggle to score adequate number of goals consistently this season.
The Rossoblu’s latest league match against Fiorentina ended in a 2-2 stalemate, and the draw is their seventh straight game without a win. The poor run has caused many to raise questions about coach Pasquale Marino’s position at
the club.
“The Coach still has 18 months on his contract, but he has to deserve to be reconfirmed by getting results in the next few games. He, like everyone else, is under discussion.” Preziosi added.
The Grifone are placed 14th in the Serie A points table, and will play against the struggling but competent http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan in their next Serie A clash.
