Alberto Gilardino rejected Napoli in the summer, confirms the agent: Serie A news
The agent of Fiorentina striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alberto-Gilardino-c4324, has revealed that his client snubbed Napoli to stay with the Viola club during the summer transfer window.
Gilardino was heavily linked with a move away from Fiorentina throughout the summer and along with Napoli, Genoa was also interested in his signature. Agent, Giuseppe Bozzo, revealed that his client Fiorentina had agreed terms
with the Azzurri but the player decided not to move to Naples.
Bozzo revealed that his client feared that his career will be affected by the move as he would have ended up on the bench given the strike options Walter Mazzarri has at his disposal.
While talking to the reporters Bozzo said, “Alberto was close to a Napoli transfer in the summer. The deal was done between the clubs and there were no problems between Presidents Aurelio De Laurentiis and Andrea Della Valle. However,
the player preferred to not take the risk of ending up on the bench. He would have only accepted the switch had he had the certainty that he would have been a starter.”
The Partenopei side currently one of the world’s best strike forces in the form of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan’s Goran Pandev as a replacement for
the Italian.
Bozzo believes that the former A.C Milan striker could have been a great signing for Napoli but he would have been in competition with other stars at the club.
Bozzo added: “Alberto would have been useful to Napoli, but he would have been in competition with other strikers. That’s why the Azzurri then opted to sign http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Goran-Pandev-c15161 from Inter instead.”
The Italian international has suffered an injury in the ongoing season and will miss a handful of matches for his team. The Viola club will miss the services of their prized striker as he has scored 58 goals in 133 matches for
them since joining the club in 2008/09. He is also missed by the Italian international team.
