Albin Choi impressive at RBC Canadian Open
It is the Americans who are dominating the RBC Canadian Open. With Robert Garrigus shooting a record tournament score, breaking the great Arnold Palmer’s record, surely he is most likely to win the tournament.
The tournament being played in Canada, one would expect the Canadians to do well at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club. However, so far it is the Americans who are in good shape. Nevertheless, unnoticed in the middle is the name of Albin Choi.
Choi who won the Canadian Amateur Championship in 2010 knows the courses very well.
There are only a handful of Canadians left in the tournament but Choi has been very impressive throughout the tournament. He is, at the moment, 1-under going into the fourth round and is a stroke behind the leading Canadians, David Hearn and Graham DeLaet.
Choi is the highest ranked low amateur and hopefully his splendid performance will not go unnoticed.
Canadians have always complained about the lack of players from Canada participating on the PGA Tour but they have never encouraged anybody either.  Choi has been performing well for the last two years or so and hopefully, his performance here at the Hamilton
Golf and Country Club will be noticed by the Canadians.
The chances of him winning the event are next to impossible as he is 15 strokes behind the leader, Garrigus, but one should expect him to do well in the final round.
Choi is extremely happy with the way he has performed in the last few weeks. His game is really on the upside and it will not be long before he decides to turn professional.
“I have been playing good these last couple of weeks. I knew my game was good enough to compete, so it is just a matter of going out there and doing it,” said Choi. “I feel like a contender. If I play well, I can finishing pretty high up there”.
It is nice to see a Canadian coming up strongly. The last known Canadian who did well was Mike Weir but he too is struggling big time this year, missing all the eleven cuts.
