Alborada – A class act in the nineties
Alborada enjoyed a very good career, spanning just a little over two years. She did not take part in a lot of races, but certainly gave her fans a lot to cheer about. She was competitive every time she stepped on the racing field and it was never easy for
her opponents to prevent her from taking the top spot.
Although, the talented mare participated in selective events, she was always confident of fighting for a victory and never let her team down. She maintained a very high winning percentage, which is not an easy thing to do.
Her career came to an early end, despite the fact that she was still capable of winning races with consistency. However, her team decided that she should call it a day on peak in order to be remembered amongst the most successful runners.
The Sir Mark Prescott Bt’s trainee debuted in July 1997 and was rated pretty highly in her first ever outing. Everyone expected her to be strong and she finished in third place overall. She made a little mistake towards the event, which cost her chance of
winning on debut.
Things went almost similar for the skilful mare in her next race as well, as she ended up third for the second consecutive time. Although, her performances were really good, yet her team would have expected better results from her.
Alborada finally broke the shackles in the final two races of her debut season, winning them comfortably. She gained a lot of confidence from those performances and came out strongly next year as well.
Alzao’s daughter managed to succeed in her first two races of the 1998 season, stretching her winning streak to four. Everything was working positively for her and she seemed unstoppable at one point.
However, the Miss K. Rausing’s trainee was unable to continue the winning momentum and had to settle for the runner up spot next time around. This did not bother her and she managed to succeed in the final race of 1998.
She raced in a couple of more races next year, winning one of them whereas failed to finish in the top-three in the other. The most important thing for her was that she ended her career with another Group 1 victory, showing that she was a class act.
