Alcando confident to win TAG Worldwide Nursery
Since debuting in August 2012, Alcando has been at the top of his game. His profile shows two triumphs off total four starts. This is an evidence of the Denis Coakley trained chestnut colt’s talent. As he is girding up his lines to run the TAG Worldwide
Nursery at Lingfield racecourse on Wednesday, many sport lovers hope that the two-year-old novice runner will be able to add third classy success to his career chart.
But, according to the experts, this task is not going to be easy for the young Irish runner who has never experienced a standard to slow track like this.
This concern is valid to some extent as the colt has bagged both of his victories over sharp and solid surfaces, thus, the slow ground can affect his natural pace.
But, Coakley does not think so, because he has prepared his pupil well for facing every sort of race conditions. He claims that Alcando will apply his utmost stamina to outplay 11 rivals over the distance of 6 furlongs.
Afterall, a lot will depend on his jockey, Eddie Ahern, who was on his back when the talented colt earned his second triumph at Bath. This rider enjoys good coordination with the runner. Hopefully, the duo will produce pleasant results.
Alcando started his career with a grand 2 ¾-length victory at Batch. That was the Winning Connections Club Maiden Auction Stakes.
After finishing third in the 32Red Casino Novice Auction Stakes at Kempton, the maverick sprinter nicely brought home the ace title of the Bathwick Tyres Chippenham Nursery.
The son of Alhaarth out of Cantando stood 4th in his last outing on October 3. Each of the four times, the rookie runner demonstrated enough courage and wisdom at the same time.
Today’s contest with relatively bigger opposition and a new venue is an acid test of Alcando’s capabilities. If he passes this, his market value will increase manifold. Thus, this is a crucial time for him.
The supposedly thrilling showdown is just a few hours away. A big turnout of the spectators is expected. Let us enjoy the party and see how Alcando copes with this arduous challenge.
