Alcohol/Drinking on a NCL voyage to Bermuda.

I will be 19 turning 20 while at sea. I am curious to the drinking age and policies I will be facing on the ship. Also:

What is the average price of a drink on board?

How can I find people to hang out with on board? (I am going with my family)

What are some things to do while in bermuda?

Rent or don't rent a scooter?

Use the ship to find snorkeling and water sports or go off the ship for the lower price?

What are some bars to go to in Bermuda and what can I expect to pay?

Who should I tip in bermuda? Same as I would in NY?

  1. rent a scooter is a must they are so awesome to rude around.

ship could be more fun then going own shore to find a snorkeling place, I would go for the ship's price if there not too much higher.

  2. I don't really know anything about Bermuda but I do know that when we went on our cruise (just got back) that if your parents are there and you are between 18-20 you can drink as long as your parents tell the front desk and stuff.

  3. The drinking age on all cruise ships is age 21 or older. And it does not matter whether you are on the ship in a US or a foreign port, its the same. It does not matter that you are in international waters, its still age 21. The only exception to this is that some cruise lines will allow those over age 18 but under age 21 who are accompanied by a parent to drink beer and wine IF their parents sign a waiver to allow them to drink.

While those under 21 cannot drink on the ship, they will be able to drink in the bars and restaurants in port stops. The drinking age in all other countries is age 18 so you can enjoy yourself there. But don't try bringing alcoholic beverages back on ship; it will be confiscated.

I have been to Bermuda twice by cruise ship and I can tell you its NOT a place that has an abundance of bars and clubs.  There's one bar in St George and a couple in Hamilton.  The main things that people go to Bermuda for are the beaches and golfing.  There are two main towns Hamilton, the largest (where most cruise ships dock for at least a day) and St George (also a port stop) which is like a small town and has just a few shops. The third place ships may dock while there is The Kings Dockyard.. The Dockyard is on the far end of the 22 mile long island and has a small mall with shops and a museum. The Crystal Cave and Fantasy Caves are worth visiting as a tour, or on your own. I also visited one of the lighthouses and you can visit one of the many forts on the island like Fort St Catherine if you like that type activity. There is not a lot else to do there.  There are no real great sights to go see. The list of things that you will see if you go on a tour would be a fort, a lighthouse, a couple museums, a church, and a cave.

I suggest that you DO NOT rent a scooter in Bermuda primarily because its a British country where they drive on the opposite side of the street from the US and the rest of the world.  If you are not familiar with doing that you can get in real trouble, especially when you get to circles/round-abouts and when making turns.  In addition, the roads are narrow.

Cruise ships generally have get-togethers for singles so you will probably meet people at one of those.  You will for sure meet people around the pools and hot tub, in the gym, and all over the ship for that matter.

If you want to snorkel, the Tobacco Bay Beach near the town of St George is great, and its walking distance (about 3/4 mile from town), or you can take a bus near there and walk.   Its a flat water bay, no waves, and there are huge rocks that you can go between and among to watch for fish.

I don't think you will be buying much of anything in Bermuda to worry about tipping; but its the same as other places.
