Alcohol experiment...?

How come i dont feel anything anything after half a bottle of vodka (other than a marginally slower reaction time) - yet half a bottle of wine can go straight to my head and make me feel really groggy?

Is it just me or is there actually some chemical difference that could cause this because it certainly doesnt appear to be the alcohol content?

  1. Wines have a lot of ingredients that you won't find in vodka.

You could have a sensitivity to sulfides which are found in wine.

  2. I experience the exact same thing.

My mum has a slight allergy to wine which means she gets knocked out from just a small bit.

This may have something to do with it?

  3. do you drink one faster than the other. Speed is a heavy factor.  Scientists in Italy say they have discovered that the grapes used to make some of the most popular red wines contain high levels of the sleep hormone melatonin. Melatonin is naturally secreted by the pineal gland in the brain, especially at night. It tells the body when it is time to sleep.

  4. Good question!  I can drink a couple of mixed vodka drinks and be fine.  But, if I have a glass of wine, I feel tipsy in no time.  Maybe it is the sulfides like someone said.  Good Luck

  5. maybe the fermenting of the grapes, I've seen elephants eat fermented fruit and not be able to stand.

  6. I'd say that you're a living biological anomaly because there is absolutely no rhyme or reason why a half bottle of wine (provided it isn't a wine bottle full of moonshine) should get you even remotely as drunk as half a bottle of vodka (assuming we're talking about a standard bottle rather than a flask or pint).  I understand that certain drinks effect people differently but this comparison is a bit to drastic for me to find much legitimacy in your claim.

  7. Wine is grapes, Vodka is potatoes, and yes there is a chemical difference, but you have to look at base ingredient.
