Question:

Alcohol on a Plane...with special circumstances?

Alright, so I'm 20 years old (underage) and I am flying to Ohio in about a month. I wish to pack a 1 Liter bottle of alcohol (195 proof) in my luggage (not on a carry-on). Is this legal? I've heard that alcohol over 100 proof is not allowed, but will the airline know this? I could just rip off the label or pour it into a water bottle. By the way, this alcohol is clear.

  1. you are under age regardless it is sealed and not in a carry on. it is by law in your possesion and you are a minor so, no you can not have it on the airplane. yes it is illegal to carry over 100 proof on a plane. it is a flameable liquid and can be explosive.

  2. I traveled back from Japan with a suit case full of fireworks once and got pulled aside because I had hairspray in my bag.  Don't mind the explosives guys...  I've also traveled to and from Ohio (it's where I live) with a flask on several occasion without anybody batting an eye.  I think it has more to do with how ambitious the security feels on any given day.

I wouldn't worry about it but be prepared to lose the bottle just in case.

  3. Regardless of whether or not you get away with it or how you package it or whatever, the answer to your first question is NO it's not legal.  Not that I care about underage drinking, but possession of alcohol by people under 21 IS NOT LEGAL anywhere in the United States.  Idiotic and wrong, but true.

  4. it is legal.but why do you not wait until you are 21.and maybe try to drink somethign less damaging-if u must drink!?

  5. That'll be perfectly fine in your bag as LONG as it is sealed (un-opened) with the label in tact to insure that you didn't replace the alcohol with gasoline for example...

I've flown across the country with a bottle of rum and razor blades in my luggate (also not carry on).

    You'll be fine.

    Good luck,

  6. You're a minor, you're not allowed to carry liquor under any circumstances. And sure as h**l not moonshine-strength. At that point it becomes a fire hazard. And trying to hide it will only get you into even more trouble with the TSA than just being a numbnut minor trying to sneak liqour.
