My friend is 20 years old and he is flying from Indianpolis, Indiana to Savannah, Georgia. He is going to stay in a condo in hilton head sc for a week and wants to take alcohol with him. If he puts like 2 half gallons of vodka in his luggage do you think he is cool to fly with it?

  1. He should be ok because he's not crossing country borders.. and they dont match bags with age when they scan it.  But he definitly can't carry it on, if that was even a question.

  2. He can check it in....just not carry it on....here's an article about alcoholic drinks.

  3. i'm not sure how gallons translate to liters, but this is directly from the TSA website.  tell him to check that for any further questions.

[also, he must have proper packaging for any liquid in checked baggage. bubble wrap, styrofoam, cardboard box around it also. the TSA and the airlines will not assume liability when the container breaks, and liquid is spilled all over the million-dollar screening machines, and onto other passengers' bags.]

    from tsa.gov:

Please note, you can’t take alcoholic beverages with more than 70% alcohol content (140 proof), including 95% grain alcohol and 150 proof rum, in your checked luggage.

You may take up to five liters of alcohol with alcohol content between 24% and 70% per person as checked luggage if it’s packaged in a sealable bottle or flask.

Alcoholic beverages with less than 24% alcohol content are not subject to hazardous materials regulations.

  4. as long as it is not in his carry on it should be ok...as long as a luggage handler does not steal it.
