I usually drink wine every day... Sometimes I have a beer or two... I rarely drink hard liquor (maybe a couple times a year) ... I've never had to cancel an event or a trip or a shopping chore for any reason. rarely wake up in pain unless it's my monthly migraine. Never missed a school event for my kids my Job or husbands chore list.

  1. youre supposed to have at least one rest day!...so that youre liver can do some maintenance...you naughty girl!!!...I have two?...mondays and tuesdays when I have to drive in the evening...

  2. When you can't function without it or you're sneaking it. A lot of people have a glass of wine everyday. I don't think it's a problem as long as you're not drinking the whole bottle!

  3. It's usually a problem when it's no longer enjoyable. It sounds like you still enjoy it.  My father was the same way, he never got drunk but he always had a beer or two after work every day. Then he went to the hospital with a liver that was in danger of failing.  I'd say tone it down a lot. You may not have any problems now but if you want to drink for the rest of your life, perhaps slow it down.  Keep alcohol for the weekends.

If that sounds hard, then it is a problem.

  4. listen to the people around you. When you start hearing comments again like "there's jane with her wine again" you might consider if you're drinking too much. It sounds like you are fully functional! a glass of wine with dinner or to relax you before bed or a beer or two in the yard with your friends. If you catch yourself becoming biligerent, spending money on alcohol that you don't have, considering driving because "i've only had 2 drinks, i should be okay" ... then you probably have a problem. It's not a problem, yet, but it could be. just keep your eyes open.

  5. if it's not making u a bad person and it's not alterign ur life in any way, than enjoy. health studies say that wine in moderation is good for you!

  6. If it gets in the way of your normal life - it's a problem.

An adult male should not drink more than 21 units of alcohol a week (1 beer = about 1 unit), a woman should not drink over 14 unite a week - and neither should drink more than 5 units on one day.

But the question is really not how MUCH you drinks - but HOW you drinks - is it disruptive to your life?

Do you lie about the amount or make efforts to hide it?

Do you plan your day around the alcohol? (Maybe you decline or avoid making appointments on your way home from work, because you look forward to the first beer, or maybe you avoid making plans for the evening, that would mean you can't drink)

Is the drinking a problem in your life - does it cause problems for you?

(f.ex. inability to work well enough, broken relationships, loss of friends, loss of social network ..).

Have other people approached you about your drinking? - have your family mentioned it as a problem?
