Alcoholic drinks should be allowed for the cricketers, says Ian Healy – Cricket News Update
Former Australian wicketkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-Andrew-Healy-c63758 is of the opinion that alcoholic drinks should be allowed for the players after a day’s play as it is going to immensely help the cricketers relax and take off all the pressure of international cricket.
The game of cricket has come of age since the last four decades. The arrival of limited overs cricket has converted it into a commercial sport, which has automatically put a lot of workload on the players. The players in the modern day sport have to play
a lot of cricket almost throughout the year and they have to concentrate in order to compete at the highest level of the game.
The whole situation has taken a lot of toll on the players and as a result of too much cricket and additional pressure, an average career of a player has been cut down to half. About a decade ago, a top class International cricketer used to have a career
of about 15 to 18 years. However, this is not the case anymore and now great cricketers like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Gilchrist-c918 and Mathew Hayden have retired after a prolific career of about eight to ten years.
This is the reason why, Healy believes that booze should be allowed for the players at the end of a day’s play. However, one must keep a check on the inexperienced players that they do not miss-use the situation.
Healy said, "It's a good way to unwind and should have no detrimental effects on performance the next day or the next weekend. The challenge is education, so that young players are not having 20 beers and cannot perform the next day."
Former wicketkeeper expressed that it is very important for the cricketers to enjoy the game and have some sort of entertainment; otherwise the game will become a burden on them.
"There is plenty of pressure at the highest level and the players need to be able to unwind. If you deny them the chance to relax, and are all about key performance indicators and fitness levels, I don't think that is good for the player as a whole," he
added.
