How long doeas Aldactone and its hormonal effects stay in the body? After how long from stopping the medication can a woman get pregnant without haing any bad effect on the baby? Are 2 weeks enough?

  1. That is difficult to say. The drug is not suppose to be used as a simple diuretic even for potassium sparing purposes as it promotes tumors called lipomas.

    It is fat soluble, so how long the fat cells can leach out small quantities is questionable, and not the subject of research.

    Since breast tumors start out a lipomas it use to be the case that doctors were only suppose to prescribe this drug for people with liver disorders (the liver breaks down a natural hormone aldosterone, but when diseased aldosterone builds up and water accumulates in the abdomen as a result).

    Marketing has expanded the use of spironolactone (one brand being aldactone) for a wider population.

    Talk with your doctor about how long to wait, if you have been using it for more than a year my own preference would be to wait 6 months.
